2007 Eclipse Award Champion Female Turf Horse

My Typhoon was a brilliant turf filly with one of the most royal pedigrees in modern racing. She was foaled in 2002 and trained by Hall of Famer Bill Mott. Her sire was the great Giant's Causeway, and her dam was the legendary Urban Sea, the 1993 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner who became one of the most influential broodmares in the world. Urban Sea was also the dam of European champions Galileo and Sea The Stars, making My Typhoon a half sister to two of the greatest sires of the modern era.

My Typhoon was sold at the Tattersalls sales for 2,955,000 dollars as a filly foal, a record price at the time. She was bred and raised in Ireland before making her way to the United States, where she joined the Bill Mott barn. She raced for owner David Tsui's Sunderland Holdings and quickly proved she had the class to match her huge pedigree.

The signature win came in the 2007 Diana Stakes at Saratoga, the most important midsummer turf race for fillies and mares in America. My Typhoon ran a beautiful race and powered home through the stretch to claim her Grade 1 win. The race was a special moment for Bill Mott, who took the Diana Stakes three years in a row from 2005 through 2007 with three different fillies, Sand Springs, Angara, and My Typhoon.

She also added five other graded stakes wins in her career and ran a brave race in the Breeders Cup Filly and Mare Turf, finishing in the money against the very best turf mares in the world. My Typhoon retired with a record that included multiple graded stakes wins and earnings well into seven figures. She went to stud as one of the most valuable broodmares in the world, given her own talent and her royal Urban Sea family. My Typhoon is remembered as a brilliant turf champion and as a part of one of the greatest breeding families in modern thoroughbred history.
