2013 Donn Handicap Winner

Graydar was a flashy gray colt who put together one of the most consistent unbeaten or nearly unbeaten campaigns of his era. He was foaled in 2009 and trained by Hall of Famer Todd Pletcher for Twin Creeks Racing Stables. He was bred by W.S. Farish of Lane's End Farm. His sire was the great Unbridled's Song, and his dam was Sweetest Smile, a daughter of Dehere. He carried his sire's striking gray coat and a pedigree built for class and stamina.

Graydar developed slowly as a young horse but came on strong in his three year old season, winning his first two starts. The big breakthrough came in early 2013 when he made his stakes debut in the Donn Handicap at Gulfstream Park. The race was full of older Grade 1 winners, but Graydar went right to the lead and rolled home by three lengths, earning a strong 109 Beyer Speed Figure. The win made him Unbridled's Song's 100th stakes winning offspring, a huge milestone for the great sire.

A month later Graydar proved that the Donn was no fluke by winning the New Orleans Handicap at Fair Grounds, again powering down the stretch to beat a strong field. He went on to win the Kelso Invitational Handicap at Belmont Park in gate to wire fashion, running a mile in 1:34 flat while carrying top weight. Graydar retired with a record of 5 wins from 6 starts and earnings of 841,560 dollars.

After his racing days, Graydar went to stud at Taylor Made Stallions in Kentucky and later moved to Milky Way Farm in California. He stood as a regional sire, passing on his class and his striking gray coat. Graydar is remembered as a horse who never seemed to put a foot wrong, a gray runner with smooth speed and a sharp finishing kick who lived up to the legacy of his great sire Unbridled's Song.
